East Bay Dine by Derk Richardson ~ Noted with Pleasure ~February 18,
1998
Make a better pancake and the world will make
a beaten path to your door. Emerson didn’t say that, but I’m
sure he would have included the honorable flapjack on his original list
of book, sermon, and mousetrap, if he had given it more thought, which
he would have if he’d lived long enough to eat at La Note. And,
as I learned over several visits during the past month, the world of
Berkeley-eaters-with-disposable-income-to-spare is indeed beating a
path to La Note’s door - for pancakes, french toast, unique egg
dishes, big luncheon salads, fancy baguette sandwiches, and hearty weekend
dinners..... with its attractive, airy decor, creative menu, and constantly
fresh and vibrant food presentation ... La Note’s biggest challenge
is coping with the crowds that gather at peak times....
